Project details will change once the Slack bot is up and running

Basic outline

  1. Wednesday: Pitch
  2. Wednesday: Feedback
  3. Friday: Tutorial hunting
  4. Wednesday: First draft + feedback
  5. Saturday: Second draft (optional)
  6. Wednesday: Final draft

Step 1: The Pitch

It isn’t so much a pitch as a baby story. You’ll need

  • A dataset
  • Preliminary data work
  • A sketch or two about presentation

Step 2: Feedback

You’ll submit your pitch via the Slack bot and to students in small groups in class. Instructors will provide feedback outside of class and students will provide feedback in class.

Rest assured that a lot of time feedback is banal and nearly useless. On the other hand, I’ve seen a lot of lackluster, boring projects made amazing through feedback.

Step 3: Resource/tutorial hunting

You’ll need to find tutorials and resources to help you along in your journey. Assemble a list by Friday.

Step 4: First draft

Using your newfound skills, build a first draft of your project.

Step 5: Draft feedback

Same as your pitch, you’ll submit a first draft of your work on both CourseWorks and to your fellow students.

Step 6: Feedback

You’ll be provided feedback both by instructors outside of class and by other students in class. We may also discuss drafts in class.

Step 7: Second draft (optional)

Submit your second draft for feedback.

Step 8: Final draft

Do a handstand!
